I'm listening to Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto (click
on the right to buy their cd from Amazon.com) and I am thinking
that they are real proffessionals. They have a great feeling for
rhythm and melody. Really calm
and relaxating music, very appropriate for lovers' evenings :-)
You should play along with the masters. How? By playing their
CDs and accompanying them. It is true that their music is so perfect,
it is hard for you to add anything, but if you imagine you are
playing for your own pleasure, it works. Because that is what
masters do - they play for pleasure, money and practice.
If you don't like spoiling their music, you can play on your
own, but playing every day is a good thing. Play what you like
without trying to resemble somebody else's style. Playing others'
melodies is an advanced ability. At least for me improvisation
was easier in the beginning.
When you improvise, you develop a confidence in your ability
(well, sometimes you dissapoint yourself too). Improvisation is,
in fact, the hardest thing, but it is good to try to improvise
in order to become a better player every day.
It's all about confidence and self esteem, but hard practice
plays a major role too. You see those great guitar masters - none
of them was this good when he/she first took a guitar. They have
all worked their way to the top. I am not a famous guitar player,
but I know this.
Well, it also may be said that everything you play is nice,
but this is too non-commercial :-) . This is philosophy. Hasn't
much to do with guitar learning. Though it can be inspiring.
Till next time...
